Self Portrait

Every once in a while I feel like taking a picture of myself. I spend so much time behind the camera that being in front of it feels weird and unnatural. I'm always reminded of how my client must feel and it helps me adjust my way of interacting with them. Today was a strange day. I've been feeling under the weather lately and for some reason I didn't feel like smiling much at all. I discovered an old song by Annie Lennox called COLD and after listening to it on Spotify about 15 times it gave me the urge to take this picture. I've also been wondering if taking more pictures with people not smiling in them will create stronger more compelling images. I don't know but I think I want to find out. The weird thing about this picture is that I'm wondering what I'm looking at and feeling when I look at myself. I don't know, what do you think?

Headshots with Cassiday Proctor

Recently I had the honor of working with Cassiday Proctor. She is an accomplished actress, improviser, Radio Host, and a new dear friend. I found working with her was easy and educating. I learned a lot about posing and got a chance to show her what quality light does to a great model. All of these shots were shot in available, shoot through umbrella, white reflector, or diffusion panel. I also edited the images using Adobe Lightroom 3 software which I highly recommend not just for photographers but for photo enthusiasts too. These are great examples of headshots that I can provide you with for auditions, facebook, and for fun. Give me a call at 512-272-5588 for booking. Also visit www.eleazarparadise.com for more examples.

Brand New Logo

I'm pleased to announce the arrival of our new logo built by Suzie Jurado www.suziejurado.com. Suzie and I first met up at Thunderbird's Coffee in East Austin to discuss this project about 2 weeks ago. I told her that I needed a new logo that was special, unique, and somehow had a meaning behind it.

The best part of the logo is the camera and the lens. The camera was designed by her and the lens came from an idea I had. The lens is an Enso. From Wikipedia - Ensō (円相) is a Japanese word meaning "circle" and a concept strongly associated with Zen. Ensō is one of the most common subjects of Japanese calligraphy even though it is a symbol and not a character. It symbolizes the Absolute, enlightenment, strength, elegance, the Universe, and the void; it can also symbolize the Japanese aesthetic itself. As an "expression of the moment" it is often considered a form of minimalist expressionist art.
In Zen Buddhist painting, ensō symbolizes a moment when the mind is free to simply let the body/spirit create. The brushed ink of the circle is usually done on silk or rice paper in one movement (but the great Bankei used two strokes sometimes) and there is no possibility of modification: it shows the expressive movement of the spirit at that time. Zen Buddhists "believe that the character of the artist is fully exposed in how she or he draws an ensō. Only a person who is mentally and spiritually complete can draw a true ensō. Some artists will practice drawing an ensō daily, as a kind of spiritual exercise."[1]

I like to think that we here at Eleazar Paradise Photography will always do everything we can to make your project special, unique, and we will strive for perfection at all times. We believe this logo conveys that message.

Raul and Caroline Urbano's Photoshoot

I had the pleasure of photographing my Aunt and Uncle and their kids while visiting in Tucson. I always thought the Sonoran Desert was beautiful to look at and now realize how nice it is as a background. The best thing about this shoot was how happy and positive everyone was. Shooting a family portrait can be stressful. Trying to get everybody ready on time is tough. This family looks great, don't you agree?

The Sedlund's Tucson Photo Shoot

Recently I had the pleasure of visiting all of my Family in Tucson Arizona.  While I was there I decided to do a few photo shoots to anyone who was needing them.  This particular shoot includes my Aunt Monica, Uncle Keith, and Cousins Marisa and Emily.  Emily is also my God Daughter but they are both near and dear to my heart.  The Sedlunds decided to all wear Blue for the shoot and made a great decision because Blue goes great with the Green and Brown background.
